Renault and integral safety > Prevention
Prevention involves helping drivers
to anticipate hazards. Making them more responsible is one way
of combating danger on the roads.
Knowing your limits
Drivers have to be aware of the limits beyond
which they can no longer control their vehicle.
The visible and audible seatbelt reminder is one of the features
that helps to make drivers more responsible. Far too many accidents
still involve people who were not wearing seatbelts.
The cruise control/speed limiter is another safety feature,
allowing drivers to select a maximum speed not to be exceeded.

Perception
Half of all road accidents are caused by an
error in perception, so another important aspect of prevention
is providing drivers with useful information. The tyre pressure
monitoring system detects slow punctures, under-inflation and
pressures not suited to the vehicle's speed.
Xenon headlamps Visibility
The sooner drivers notice an obstacle, the
sooner they can take evasive action. Good visibility is a vital
factor in safety.Anticipating risks means assisting drivers
with auxiliary tasks so that they can concentrate on the main
task of driving. Automatic headlamps are an example.
Although only 30% of accidents happen at night, they are responsible
for half of all road deaths. Xenon headlamps improve visibility,
giving drivers a keener awareness of their surroundings.

On-board comfort
Research into driver behaviour has shown that
when the temperature in the cabin rises above 30°C, the
risk of going off the road increases by 30%. It is therefore
essential to ensure that the temperature can always be controlled.
To keep the cabin comfortable when the sun is beating down,
Renault has come up with the idea of inserting a thin
film into its windscreens to reflect
some of the infrared rays. They are known as heat-reflective
windscreens.
Being comfortably seated in a
well-designed seat is another important safety
factor. Renault takes particular care to use quality
materials for both the front and rear seats. An appropriate
driving position helps drivers to react faster and reduces tiredness.
